I have an ABB inverter. Who honours the warranty now?
FIMER. It acquired ABB’s solar inverter business in 2020 and committed to honouring existing ABB warranties. FIMER runs an Australian support operation and publishes an online warranty check that works from the unit’s serial number, so it is worth confirming before assuming the unit is out of support.
My inverter says Aurora. Is that the same thing?
Yes, it is the oldest name on the same product line. Power-One sold the Aurora residential range in Australia from 2005, ABB acquired Power-One in 2013, and FIMER acquired the solar business in 2020. An Aurora unit is now old enough that age, not branding, is usually the deciding factor.
I heard FIMER was in administration. Is my inverter orphaned?
FIMER went through an Italian restructuring process and was acquired by McLaren Applied Group, with the acquisition completed in 2026 and substantial investment behind it. The company continues to operate. If you were told during that period that your unit was unsupported, that is worth re-checking.
Is it worth repairing an Aurora-era inverter?
